This fall, CIVIX will mark its 20th anniversary as Canada’s leading school-based civic education organization, and we want to celebrate teachers for helping us reach this important milestone.

Since the first Student Vote was held in October 2003, CIVIX has held 62 parallel elections in Canada, working with thousands of teachers, and resulting in more than 8 million voting experiences.

Our organization has grown to include programming on themes of government budgets, elected representatives, digital media literacy and civic discourse.

None of this would have been possible without our amazing ground team — the dedicated teachers across the country that champion democratic engagement in their schools.

As part of our anniversary activities, we are looking to highlight the stories of 20 teachers who have led CIVIX programming, and gone above and beyond in their practices of civic education.

If you believe you or someone you know should be a CIVIX Ambassador, please fill out the following form: https://civix.ca/ambassadors/

The deadline for submissions is July 31, 2023. Educators will be selected based on the responses provided, as well as other considerations such as geography, language and school level.

CIVIX Ambassadors will receive a certificate of appreciation and be profiled on the CIVIX website and social media accounts, and receive special access to PD opportunities and/or anniversary events to be offered during the 2023/24 school year.

We are also looking for CIVIX alumni and memorable impact stories

  • Do you know a student whose Student Vote experience positively influenced their life choices or career path? We’d like to hear about them.
  • Have you had a remarkable experience using a CIVIX program? We would love to hear your stories related to the impact of these programs from over the past 20 years.

We’re excited to be entering our third decade and look forward to hearing educator stories. Please email anniversary@civix.ca to share your stories with our team or ask any questions.
